Day 6 of the: #You are enough 30 day blogging challenge
“I am still as single as the sock you pull out of the washing machine without its matching pair.”
As a revert seeking a spouse is one of the most important yet often difficult aspects within Islam – for me at least.
I often find myself envious of brothers and sisters whose whole family are Muslim. When that time comes and marriage is on the agenda, they simply have to let their parents, brothers, sisters, uncles, and aunts know and the journey begins.
Whereas for us reverts, we have to secure a wali (Guardian/helper who will act on our behalf during the search for a spouse), which is not an easy fete and is a whole topic in itself. Then there is the matter of finding suitable potentials.
I have been looking for that Mr Right for the past three years. I’ve asked everyone I know to keep a look out for me yet I am still as single as the sock you pull out of the washing machine without its matching pair. I’ve had a few prospects that always end up as a dead end.
Recently I have been mulling over the idea of joining one of those online matrimony sites however, I have found that most of these sites are predominately Asian brothers and hardly any Black British Carribean and/or African brothers, which is my preference. Aside from that, the thought of it totally scares me. Do you know how many weirdo’s are lurking around online?
I told my mum ( who is not Muslim) that I was considering signing up for an online site, she proceeded to inform me of a recent episode of crime watch where this Muslim girl meets a nice brother on one of these sites, went on to marry him; moved to America to live with him, things ended up not going well she came back to the UK; He began cyber stalking her, came to the UK bugged her house and ended up murdering her!’
No bueno! Thanks mum that really helped! I digress. I do know a few people who have found their ‘other half’ via the digital medium so it cant be all that bad?
How do you feel about online marriage sites? What were your experiences?
Day 6: Share your thoughts about online dating or an experience you had while doing online dating that made an impact on your life.
